Art to Acres
Art to Acres is a 501(c)(3) artist-founded non-profit environmental and art initiative focusing on large-scale land conservation for climate, Indigenous peoples and biodiversity support.
Galleries Commit x Art to Acres was a unique, worker-led conservation partnership permanently protecting large-scale landscapes of ecologically vital and vulnerable land through collective contributions by the visual art sector.
Permanent, old-growth forest conservation prevents carbon emissions released during deforestation while simultaneously protecting an ecosystem's wildlife, habitat, clean water, and local community.
Contributions were made by individuals, galleries, or institutions as one part of a carbon accounting focused on understanding and reducing emissions, or as standalone donations.
Completed Projects
Catamayo, Ecuador
Galleries Commit and Art into Acres are supporting the conservation of a 61,776 acre region in the Catamayo municipality, Ecuador. The region is home to rare natural areas of inter-Andean dry forest and transitional areas of cloud forest in a good state of conservation, but without any current legal protection status.

Sevilla de Oro
Galleries Commit and Art to Acres are supporting the conservation of the Sevilla de Oro Municipal Conservation Region in Ecuador. The 48,536 acre region is made up of paramo and cloud forest, is a watershed for the local community, supports a range of threatened species, and captures and stores atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Chuyapi-Urusayhua
Galleries Commit partnered with Art to Acres to permanently conserve 200,000 acres of ecologically vital and vulnerable land by creating the Chuyapi-Urusayhua regional conservation area in Peru.
