Galleries Commit is a worker-led collective committed to a climate-conscious, resilient, and equitable future for New York City galleries.

What we do.

Current initiatives include Climate Action 8x8, a public commitment letter, a climate action database and a land conservation partnership with Art to Acres.

Past initiatives have included a survey of gallery climate actions and a series of community roundtables.

We maintain an active community of gallery workers, artists, and allies from over 60 New York City galleries via monthly meetings, an email list, and Slack. To join, sign the commitment letter here.

Artists who signed the letter created a sister initiative, Artists Commit, to help activate gallery action with the collaboration and support of artists.

See us in the press.

Galleries Commit acknowledges that New York City galleries sit on the unceded land of the Lenape peoples. We recognize that the systems that support our galleries were founded upon exclusions and erasures of many Indigenous peoples, including the Lenape people. That erasure is inextricably linked to the climate crisis we face today. We honor the Lenape and other Indigenous caretakers of these lands and waters, both their elders of the past as well as the present and future generations to come.
